After a long history in the IT sector I moved into the supply of sterilisation equipment and surgical instruments for the NHS in 2005.
Predominantly this was the supply of sterilisation containers for SSD units. We discovered there are drawbacks with the use of both wraps and containers within the NHS and a conversation with a SSD manager who gave the comment, “It’s a shame we can’t just wrap din baskets in PTFE as this would solve the problems we face”.
This set me off on a quest to find the answers and solutions to these issues. I worked with a number of companies and NHS trusts in the development of a Fortified PTFE membrane pouch for use within the sterile services departments. It took several years until we found a solution that worked and in 2015 I submitted a patent application for the pouch.
With the commercial backing and financial investment of Hurstwood Holdings, the project gained accelerated traction and in 2019 the testing and certification for the pouch was finalised. In 2020 the CE Marking was achieved and the Patent has been granted in April 2021.
I am now extremely pleased to be able to provide these Pouches to the NHS which we are convinced will help save lives by ensuring no set can be compromised and reducing the possibility of damaging post operative infections.
